Do 4th gen and 5th gen Ram 1500 parts interchange?
Almost nothing interchanges between a 2009 to 2018 fourth-generation Ram 1500 (DS) and a 2019 to 2026 fifth-generation Ram 1500 (DT). The DT is a new truck on a new frame, four inches longer in Crew Cab wheelbase, with six-lug hubs instead of five, a wider cab, different transmissions and a new electrical architecture. Body panels, lamps, wheels, transmissions, suspension and interior parts are all body-specific. The 2019 to 2024 Ram 1500 Classic is a DS and shares parts with the DS, not the DT. A few consumables and some engine internals cross; the table below is the list.
Why is the DT a different truck?
Stellantis's 15 January 2018 launch release describes the 2019 Ram 1500's frame as "98 percent high-strength steel" and "100 pounds lighter", with "three new, longer frame lengths" including a "144.5-inch wheelbase on Crew Cab short beds and a 153.5-inch wheelbase on Crew Cab long beds – both four inches longer". It names new transmissions, the "TorqueFlite 850RE" for the V6 and the "TorqueFlite 8HP75" for the HEMI, new eTorque mild-hybrid engines, and "largest front brakes in segment at 14.9 inches". The wheel hubs went from five studs to six. A truck that changed its frame, wheelbase, hubs, brakes, transmissions and body shell at once shares very little with what came before.

Does a Classic count as a 4th gen or a 5th gen?
A 4th gen. The Ram 1500 Classic sold from 2019 to 2024 is the DS body kept in production alongside the new DT. Its doors, beds, lamps, wheels, engines and transmissions are 4th gen parts and fit 2013 to 2018 trucks, and the reverse. The 2013 refresh. Front-end parts (grille, headlights, hood, front bumper, fenders) from a 2013 to 2024 DS do not fit a 2009 to 2012, because the grille grew "approximately one inch taller" and the headlamps changed. Doors, beds and tailgates largely do cross the 2012 to 2013 line, with wiring differences for the camera and tow lamps. Engines and transmissions split at 2013 too: the 3.6 Pentastar and the eight-speed arrived that year.

The 2025 refresh changed the front end (grille, headlights, bumper, hood) and the interior (Uconnect 5 screens, new dash) and replaced the HEMI with the Hurricane straight-six, with the HEMI returning for 2026. Doors, beds, tailgates, frame and chassis carry over from 2019 to 2024. So a 2019 to 2024 DT grille does not fit a 2025, but a 2019 to 2024 DT door does.
How do I avoid buying the wrong generation part?
- Know which body you have: DS, Classic or DT.
- Count the lugs. Five is DS. Six is DT. It takes two seconds and it is never wrong.
- Send the VIN with any inquiry, and say "Classic" or "new body" in the message.
- Treat any listing that says "2019 to 2024 Ram 1500" without saying which body as unverified until you have asked.
