Used Ram 1500 transmissions: 8HP70, 8HP75 and 65RFE
We stock three Ram 1500 automatics: the ZF-designed TorqueFlite 8HP70 eight-speed behind the 2013 to 2024 DS HEMI, the 8HP75 eight-speed behind the 2019 and later DT HEMI, and the 65RFE six-speed fitted to earlier and lower-trim V8 trucks. The V6 eight-speeds (8HP45 in the DS, 850RE in the DT) come through as well. Each one was driven and checked for shifting and leaks before the donor truck was taken apart, and we match it to your engine, year and drive (2WD or 4x4) before you pick up.
Which transmission came with which truck?
Stellantis's 2013 press kit says the eight-speed TorqueFlite was "standard equipment with 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine" and "available with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8" that year, which means many 2013 HEMIs still carried a six-speed. For the 2019 DT, the launch release names the "TorqueFlite 850RE transmission" for the V6 and the "TorqueFlite 8HP75 transmission" for the HEMI.

How do I know which one I have?
The build sheet, the window sticker or the sales-code label in the glovebox names it (DFD for the 8HP70, for example, is common on DS window stickers). Failing that, the transmission has a stamped bar-code tag on the case. The transmission guide shows where to look and what each code means. Send us a photo of the tag with your inquiry and matching is quick.
Why does 2WD or 4x4 matter?
The output end is different. A 4x4 transmission bolts to a transfer case; a 2WD unit has a tailhousing and yoke. They do not swap without changing that end, so we ask for the drive type with every transmission inquiry.
What is checked before a transmission is tagged?
- Driven in the donor truck through every gear, listening for slip, flare or harsh shifts, and for the eight-speeds, watching the dial shifter respond.
- Fluid condition and leaks at the pan, the cooler lines and the front seal.
- Mileage recorded from the donor odometer and stated in the quote.
- The torque converter stays with the transmission it came out of, unless the quote says otherwise.
