Used Ram 1500 tailgates, standard and multifunction
We stock used OEM Ram 1500 tailgates in every factory form: the standard drop-down gate from 2009 to 2024 DS and Classic trucks, the standard DT gate from 2019 on, and the 60/40 swing-away multifunction tailgate that Ram introduced on the 2019 DT. Camera, power lock, damped-drop and RamBox-compatible versions are all noted on the tag. Every gate is checked for straightness, rust along the bottom, working latches and cables, and a working camera where fitted. On 2019 and 2020 DT gates we also check the striker alignment named in Transport Canada recall 2022699.

What is the multifunction tailgate?
Ram unveiled it on 6 February 2019 at the Chicago Auto Show. Stellantis describes a gate that "retains the capabilities of a fully dampened, drop-down tailgate with remote release options and adds a first-of-its-kind 60-40 split, swing-away functionality", with "four configurations: open flat, open left door only, open right door only and open both doors". Each door swings open 88 degrees, a retractable centre step was optional, and it went on sale across the 2019 Ram 1500 line in the second quarter of 2019.

It is heavier and more complicated, so a used one is checked door by door.
What about the 2019 to 2020 tailgate recall?
Transport Canada recall 2022699, published 8 December 2022, covers 2019 and 2020 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks on which "the tailgate could unlatch and open while driving", with the remedy that dealers "inspect the alignment of the tailgate strikers, and adjust them if necessary". On a used gate from a 2019 or 2020 truck we check striker alignment and latch engagement on the donor before removal, and we say so on the tag. Only if your truck has the camera wiring and a screen to show it. A camera gate on a truck without the harness is just a gate with a camera in it, which is fine, and we price it as a gate. Going the other way, a truck that had a camera needs a camera gate or you lose the picture. Tell us what your old gate had.
What is checked on a used tailgate?
- Straightness along the top edge and at the hinge pockets.
- Rust along the bottom edge and inside the lower seam, the first place a DS gate goes.
- Latches, cables and handle, working on the donor; strikers checked on 2019 to 2020 DT gates.
- Camera and power lock, checked on the donor where fitted.
- Paint code recorded from the donor.
